This is my Dad and I in St. Louis with the tub loaded up on his trailer.
The tub, in Louisville, awaiting transportation to Albuquerque when my Dad visits me in early 2002.
The first test fit of the body on the frame. From here we marked the locations for the body mounts that would need to be relocated.
Another picture of the test fit - I need some 35s.... those 33s look tiny!
The rear body mount cover plate and nut were freed by drilling out the spot welds. The centerline was also marked.
Here is a picture of the nut and nut retainer (left) and the cover plate (right) after they were removed. (Save the nut for later.)
The body mount nut and nut retainer were removed through 2.5" x .5" access holes cut into the back.
A new nut was welded to a plate and that plate was welded inside of the body channel by filling in the areas of the old spot welds. A new cover plate was then welded to the bottom of the body channel. Yea, yea - I know the welds suck... but hey, I did it myself!
A photo of the completed mount (except final paint). The access holes were simply covered with access panels.
The mounts in front of the rear wheels were easy. The body mount nuts from the rear mounts were drilled out, tapped with 1/2" thread, and ground down on the sides to fit into the body channel. New holes were drilled in the proper location and the nut was simply inserted in from the back.
The first step was to install the flush mount taillights was to mark the locations for the 4.25-inch holes. My first mark was to close to the gas fill hole - so I moved it up.
The hole was then cut out with a jig-saw, cleaned up with a die grinder, and finshed off with a hand file.
The gromet was fitted into the cut hole and the taillight was inserted from the back. I think it came out pretty nice.
Using the YJ tub with a CJ gas tank requires me to move the gas fill hole to the other side... again, the first step was to mark the location of the new hole.
The hole was then cut out with a jig-saw, cleaned up with a die grinder, and finshed off with a hand file.
The CJ gas filler neck test fit into the new hole.
A photo showing the rear of the tub with the new items in place. Any extra holes will be filled before painting.
I thought it would be a good idea to upgrade the heater blower motor while I had it at this stage. Here is the new hole sized marked.
The hole was then cut out with a jig-saw, cleaned up with a die grinder, and finshed off with a hand file.
The end result of the hole enlarging...
